Unusual Volume Scanner

The Unusual Volume scanner identifies stocks where today's trading activity significantly exceeds the 20-day average. The Vol Ratio is the primary metric — a ratio of 3x means three times the normal daily volume is trading, which is a strong signal that institutional players are involved. At 5x or above, the activity becomes exceptional and warrants close attention.

Volume alone tells only part of the story. A 5x volume surge on a stock that is down 8% is a very different signal than the same surge on a stock that is up 6%. Use the Direction filter to focus on bullish (price rising) or bearish (price falling) unusual volume. Bullish unusual volume with a strong price move often signals accumulation — institutions building a position. Bearish unusual volume with a large negative move can signal distribution or a negative catalyst.

The Min Ratio filter lets you focus on the most extreme readings. The 3x+ filter shows only the stocks with the most dramatic volume surges — these are the highest-conviction signals. The 1x+ view gives the broadest picture of what is seeing elevated activity across the market on a given day.

This scanner updates every 5 minutes during US market hours. Data is intraday and resets each session. It does not constitute financial advice.
